What About Aerosol Bedliner?

Is Aerosol Bedliner Any Good?

Bedliner comes in many forms, and for the most part, this site discusses roll-on vs. spray-on applications. Of course when referring to spray-on bedliner, we mean the type you spray with a gun and an air compressor (such as Raptor Liner). But there is another option – a simpler option that doesn’t require any specialized equipment. Aerosol bedliner. But is aerosol any good? What applications is it best suited for? Those are the questions we are answering today.

First, let me just say that aerosol bedliner is NOT appropriate for large projects such as vehicles. Spraying an entire vehicle with aerosol cans would be a LOT of work, and not cost effective at all considering how many cans you would need. Additionally, Aerosol bedliner is just not as durable as a typical spray-on type. This is due to the fact that most of it is a one-part mixture and doesn’t have a hardener. This makes it less durable overall and probably not something that would stand up to the elements well on a vehicle.

What Should Aerosol Bedliner be Used For?

All that being said, there are excellent uses for aerosol bedliner. Below, we see the example of a gun stock. This is an excellent example of using aerosol bedliner correctly. If the surface is prepped well, it should adhere well and stand up to most of the typical wear and tear a gun stock has to withstand. Additionally, it can be re-applied or touched up easily.

The laptop below is another example of a good, creative use of aerosol bedliner. Laptops aren’t left out in the weather, and usually well taken care of. Again, the aerosol bedliner should work great as long as the surface is prepared well.

Which Aerosol Bedliner Should You Choose?

These days, there are quite a few options for aerosol bedliners, and which one you choose should really be dependent upon the type of project you’re working on. If you are covering an indoor object that doesn’t get much wear and tear (such as the laptop above), then the cheaper Rustoleum truck bed coating spray.

A More Durable Aerosol?

If you are coating something that requires more durability, however, going with the cheapest option probably isn’t the best idea. In that case, I would recommend stepping up to one of the more expensive and more durable products on the market, such as the Raptor 2k Aerosol Bedliner. It is a 2 part system that’s great for touch ups on an existing bedliner surface or coating small objects. Note that the nature of the product means that 1 can does not cover much surface area, so you’re trading coverage for durability. Still, it’s a great choice for the right application.

Preparation is Key

One final note on aerosol bedliners – surface prep is super important! Just like painting anything, it must be clean and smooth surfaces should be scuffed for the best adhesion. Treat it just like a painting project because in the end it is basically just a specialized spray paint.
